Maxine Gaddy Pittman

Maxine Gaddy Pittman was born on May 25, 1939 in St. Paul's North Carolina, the second child from this union of the late Hazie Gaddy and Johnnie Mae Grimes. She departed from this earthly journey on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Encouraged by her grandmother, whom she adored Hattie Bell McDowell, Maxine fellowshipped at Second New Light Missionary Baptist Church in St. Pauls, North Carolina as a child. In her early teen years Maxine moved to Baltimore, Maryland with her family. She attended Baltimore City Public Schools and earned her high school diploma from Carver Vocational Technical where she majored in dress-making. She continued her education at Baltimore City Community College earning her nursing degree. Upon arriving in Baltimore she was united with the Mt. Hope Baptist Church where she served faithfully for over sixty years. She was involved in many ministries including the Missionary Circle, Nurses Unit, Floral Circle, Kitchen Committee, Women's Day Committee and helping where ever was needed. Maxine loved assisting with bake sales, donating her much loved pineapple upside down cakes and sweet potato pies, and helping out at the churches Flea Market. Sister Pittman always had a purse full of candy to give to kids and adults. Maxine loved her church. In 1960 she married the love of her life Louis D. Pittman who preceded her in death. To this union two children were born Glenn and Glynette (Dawn). She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother and friend who will be missed by all. Maxine's keen caring and loving nature for helping others lead her to pursue a career in nursing. She was employed with Sinai Hospital and South Baltimore General (Harbor Hospital) on South four and as a Surgical Nurse until her retirement. She enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, bus trips and traveling, bowling on the senior league, word searches, Christian puzzle books, frequenting the Forest Park Senior Center, eating at Red Lobster and watching Court shows with Nikki, talking on the phone with girlfriends into the wee hours of the morning and casino outings. But mostly, reading her bible and listening to gospel music. Maxines favorite songs were "My soul is anchored in the Lord" and "Grace and Mercy". She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Wanda (Leroy) and devoted daughter Glynette (Dawn); four grandchildren to include loving granddaughter Ashley (Nikki); three great grandchildren including "Granny's Boy Tori; three sisters Geraldine, Brenda and Sharon; five God children Trina, Bernard Jr., Craig (Goods), Latina and Ronnie; sister circle Pauline, Gloria, Kay, Margaret, Hortense, Janice, Norma J. and Annie Mae; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
