Marie A. Williams

Deaconess Marie Annette Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister and a loyal friend to many, transition to eternal rest on July 13, 2023. Her spirit and love will last far beyond her departure. Marie ‘Ma’Ree’, as she was affectionately called, was born on June 22, 1940, as the youngest of nine children to the late Farris and Neva Solomon. Marie is survived by her husband Deacon Nay Charles Williams and sister Mollie Lois Bert of Reisterstown, MD and her sister in love, Penny Solomon of Enfield, NC and a host of many relatives and friends, too numerous to mention. Family members preceded in death are her son Orlando Williams; eight siblings, Curtis Solomon, Grady Mills (Sammy), Robert Solomon (Margret) and Ben Solomon of Enfield, NC, Patty Lynch (Elder) and Ethel Mae Peters (Roosevelt) of Richmond, VA and Walter Mae Solomon (Frank) Atlanta, GA and Odessa Brewer of Brooklyn, NY. She attend Eastman High School, Halifax County, North Carolina and graduated with honors. Marie and Nay Charles committed their love to each other on July 3, 1960. Within this union, both found unconditional love and someone to spend the rest of their lives with. Within 63 years of matrimony, they were blessed with six children; Angela Joaquin of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra Williams, Charles Williams (Deborah), Orlando Williams (deceased), Jason Williams Sr. (Elisha), and Christopher Williams of Richmond, VA; 17 grandchildren, Terrence Williams, Travis Williams (Thedra), Donte Beard, Niketta Phillips (Antonio), Justin Crumpler, Porsche Johnson-Carter (Johnnie), Debreona Wilson, Branton Joaquin, III, Yancy Joaquin, Landra Taylor, Kenya Williams, Jessica Hughes, Jason Williams Jr, Cleveland Williams, Deja Chambliss, Christopher Williams Jr., and Jayden Williams; 35 great grandchildren and two great-great grands. Deaconess Marie received the Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a faithful and loyal servant to the kingdom of God and for the people of God. Her love for God spread to all that came in contact with her. Her gentle touch, a huge hug or a beautiful smile would warm your heart full of love. Her faith never waivered through her illness and she always continued to believe God in spite of the doctor’s reports. She was an active member at St. James United Holy Church, Richmond, VA. Her dedication consisted of Church Clerk/Secretary, President of the Mother Board, Kitchen Committee, Senior Missionary, Willing Workers and anything her heart and hands were able to do. She touched so many through her love for singing. Marie and Nay Charles sung on many occasions as the Williams Duo. She also sung with several groups, such as the H & L Gospel Singers, the Solomon Singers and the St. James Mass Choir. Another one of her passions, was her love for children, which led her to manage her own Day Care business.
