Marcus Lemont Adair

Marcus Lemont Adair was born to loving parents Eddie and Dorothy Adair and welcome by brothers Glenn, Eddie, and Keith on June 2, 1967. Three years later, the family circle was completed with the birth of his brother Calvin. He attended Douglas Memorial Community Church with his family and was christened there as an infant. As child and teenager, he served at Douglas as an acolyte and on the children’s choir. Building on this spiritual foundation established at Douglas, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior as a young man and worshiped and served his Lord in places of worship wherever he found himself. Marcus completed Howard Park Elementary, Garrison Middle, and City College High School, where he was a star basketball player. He followed his uncles, aunts and first cousins and pursued his undergraduate studies at Virginia State University. In his sophomore year his uncles’ influence also led him to embrace the crimson and cream, and he joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. on the mighty Spring 1987 line of 17 initiates. In 1989 he completed a Bachelors Degree in Mathematic and secured a U.S. Army Commission. He received a Master of Arts in Teaching, specializing in Mathematics from Morgan State University in 1997. A Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Policy was granted from Morgan State University in 2008. Immediately following his undergraduate college graduation, Second Lieutenant Marcus Adair honored his commission and entered in service to the country as Air Defense Artillery Officer. He was responsible for the logistical readiness, administrative and tactical proficiency of fifty-two personnel. After receiving an honorable, he began his career in education in September 1992 with his assignment as a teacher with Baltimore City Public Schools, beginning on the elementary level and progressing to high school and college. After receiving his doctorate, he assumed his last education assignment as Associate Dean at Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Marcus Adair was unique in his love of math that started in elementary school. He had an affinity for making math easy and understandable to those who found it intolerable. In his own words, he expressed his pride in that ability. “My strength is teaching math and being able to expose it to those who never understood it before.” Mark, as he was fondly called by those closest to him, was definitely a people person. He loved all and was a friend to many. To Mark – once a friend, always a friend. He especially loved family gatherings. The evening before his sudden death, he gathered with over forty family members at his uncle’s 70th birthday party. He enjoyed his time with the first cousins that the gatherings provided as they reminisced and caught up on the happenings in their lives. Marcus Lemont Adair departed this life suddenly on Sunday, July 18, 2010. Marcus leaves too mourn his sudden passing his loving and devoted mother Dorothy Adair, brothers Glenn, Eddie, Keith and Calvin, aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
