Katherine Ford

KATHERINE FORD was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 16, 1927 to James and Ida Belle Greene. Katherine was the second oldest of eight siblings born of this union (two boys and six girls). Katherine had a great love for people, children, especially family and friends. After Katherine graduated from high school she attended Shaw University for a while then attended and graduated from La-Mae Beauty College. Katherine received her diploma in Cosmetology on the 15th of May 1950. Katherine also believed and talked about the importance of education… she wanted to be a social worker, fulfilling her love of people, children and the willingness to help others. While attending La-Mae Beauty College she met and married Frank Ford, and the both of them later relocated to Turners Station, Md. to begin their family. From this union was born a daughter Yolanda Nadine Ford and a son Frank Douglass Ford Jr. Katherine was a passionate sports fan who especially loved basketball and football. She would always talk about how her father played baseball and football with her and her siblings. An avid storyteller who enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood, growing up, family and friends, she would often talk about writing these real life stories to keep the family history alive. Always a strong believer in her faith in God, she was an avid church goer along with her husband and family which she greatly embraced. Before becoming ill she taught Sunday School at Our Savior Lutheran Church where she enjoyed working with children. Katherine leaves to mourn: her husband, Frank Ford Sr.; a daughter, Yolanda Ford of Baltimore, MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Douglass Ford Jr. and his wife Joan Ford of Denton, MD; three grandchildren which she loved and cherished deeply, Carlos Juan of Baltimore, MD, Steven Douglass and Tiffany Cierra Ford of Denton, MD; three sisters and brother-in-law, Gertrude Cromwell and husband Julius of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mae Lois and Clyde Penny of Durham, N.C., Ruby and Earl Wilkerson of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Katherine also leaves three sisters-in-law, Carrie Sewell of Detroit, Michigan, Iris Ivey of High Point, North Carolina and Adelle Foard of Pennsauken, New Jersey; and adopted sister-in-law, Annie Gordan of Randallstown, MD; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
