Joseph Clemons

Joseph Owens Clemons lived seventy-five of the richest and most robust years that any man could. He went on to a higher place on April 10, 2012. Joe was born to Albert and Colline Clemons on August 18, 1936. He survived by his soul mate and best friend Barbara Clemons, there for him until the very end. Joe’s children are Sabreem Abdulbatin, Kim Monique Clemons, Frenchi Mack and Zachary Clemons; grandchildren, Isa Makdeeh Abdulbaatin, Wakeelah Abdullbaatin, Amerah Abdulbaatin, Tyquan Edmonds, Alani and Alana Edmonds; his siblings, Brenda Walls, Michael Clemons, Dannette Rush, Bernadette Clemons and Drucilla Clemons, continue to live in his memory. Starling Rush, Caline Clemons, Alan Walls, Calvin Clemons and Candice Clemons were his beloved nieces and nephews. Rita Ricks, Carla Clemons and Rita Clemons were his cousins. Joe, affectionately known at the “Chief”, blessed all who knew him with his magnanimous spirit, jovial sense of humor and a larger than life personality. Joe proudly served his country as a U.S.A.F. Korean War Veteran, and has served proudly his community as a member of the Ancient and Accepted Free Masons Inc., M.W. Zenubbabel Grand Lodge in Baltimore, Maryland. Joe was an avid athlete who began his life as a decorated track and field star who participated in the Penn Relays as a young teenager. He played Semi Professional Football and organized softball throughout his adult life. He kept the medals coming by as recently as a year ago, continuing to compete in the Veterans Special Olympics in his later years. Joe was equally talented in business. He was a published songwriter in the 60’s, a successful restaurant owner in the 70’s, and a pioneer in the construction industry throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. He was honored several years in a row, by the United States Small Business Administration with the Minority Contractor Award for completing several major large scale construction projects in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia. Always the entrepreneur, his business ranged from Jodie’s Luncheonette, Nu-Ko Painting and Decorating, All Surfaces and Clemons Construction Inc. Joe was an true Artisan. Joe touched everyone he came in contact with as he spread his affection, wit and charisma to everyone in his circle.
