Jerrie Edward Thurman

Early in the morning, just after the break of dawn there was a new child in town as Evelyn and the late Allen Thurman became the proudest parents of a bouncing baby boy on Wednesday, April 14, 1948 in Berkley, South Carolina. After sitting and thinking about a name, Jerrie was called out and Edward too. They were found pleasing to the ear as this ten pound baby was given the name JERRIE EDWARD. With their baby locked in their arms, not only nurturing but a little spoiling was on time as this tiny little fellow was off to a brand new start. Jerrie had to go with mom and dad as they journeyed to their new home in Baltimore City. It was only a few years later when Jerrie had to leave the house, school days... school days was what he was about. His educational endeavors were met in the Baltimore City Public Schools and after obtaining his diploma he ventured out and abroad. Jerrie met and married Mary Louise Richardson, who preceded him in death, but not before two daughters were born. Jerrie, "Gerald" as he was known, joined the United States Army. After completing Basic Training he was off to Munich, Germany which showed he was grown at last. When his military tour had ended, PFC Jerrie Thurman held high in his hand an Honorable Discharge, as he was bound for home at last. After returning home, Jerrie met and fell in love with Rose Moreno and asked for her hand in marriage, and with this union their families combined to include six children. His Entrepreneurship was most rewarding as he completed home improvements, and auto-mechanics and could be found under your car or inside of someone else's. He enjoyed helping others. Jerrie loved to watch cartoons, ride his bicycle, and collecting National Geographic Magazines. You could always find him lovingly playing with his children and grandchildren, but education was his number one priority for all of them. "Do something with your life, for life is too short", this was his favorite saying. But death once again invaded our home, as our loved one had no time to say so long or goodbye for God called him home on Sunday, February 5, 2006. Those he leaves to carry his memory in their hearts are: his mother, Evelyn Thurman; four daughters, Antoinette Singleton, April Nesbit, Anita Thurman and Alecia Thurman; one son, Jerrie Thurman, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Mikita, Angel, Jamal, Arielle, Allen, Tyrell, Alanna, Ashley and Christopher; one son-in-law, Charles Nesbit; one mother-in-law, Ethel Mae Jordan; one brother-in-law, Charlie Jordan; seven aunts and two uncles all of South Carolina; a devoted, loving significant other, Regina Tomsetti; and a host of other relatives and friends.
