Jean Carol Parker

JEAN CAROL PARKER, the second child of the late Calvin and Mary Parker, was born on October 6, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life, after a short illness, on July 3, 2011. She received her education from the Francis M. Wood School and spent most of her time with her siblings and parents. She enjoyed listening to music and often sang many songs, word for word, such as “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” and songs by Ray Charles, James Brown, The Temptations and the Surpremes. A very affable, social and caring person, Jean made friends with everyone she met. Her neighbors on Lafayette Avenue loved and cared for her as if she were their own. She enjoyed her sessions with her father who used to read the Sunday comics to her – especially Blondie and Dagwood. She enjoyed playing with her little brother Reggie, niece Kim and nephew David and card games such as War, Pity Pat, Rob the Bundle, Slap Jack and Old Maid. Jean was loved by all of her family, especially her aunt, Anita Hall, whom she loved dearly. For the last fifteen years, Jean was a resident of Bluepoint Nursing Home, where she made numerous friends and enjoyed being in the dining room during, all of her waking hours. Her outgoing personality drew many of the residents, staff and visitors to her. She was always willing to share her “goody bag” and piece of cake with others. She participated in various activities including Bingo, church services and at times led the exercise class. It was also well known that she would never hesitate to ask for “a dollar” from family, staff or visitors. Jean was preceded in death by her father, Calvin, Sr.; her mother Mary, who devoted her life to Jean’s care; and her brother, Calvin Parker, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: a sister, Delores Kerr; a brother, Reginald Parker; two nieces, Kimberly Parker and Mary Beth McBurnette; two nephews, David Kerr and Calvin Parker III; a sister-in-law, Anita Parker (Doll), with whom she shared a special bond; a family friend, Mary “Sigie” Speaks, as well as other nieces, nephews, friends and caretakers whose lives she touched.
