Jean Marie Johnson

Jean Marie Dates Johnson was born on December 22, 1937, to the late William (Henry) and Mary Dates. The Lord called her home on August 26, 2023, at 7:45 pm. She was received with loving arms by her late husband Daniel, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, oldest son, and oldest grandson. Jean Marie was baptized in the catholic faith as a baby. She received her educational and religious education at St. Peter Claver Church and continued her education at Frederick Douglass High School. As a young girl you would find Jean Marie on Saturday’s scrubbing the altars stairs for 50 cents to buy herself a slice of Boston crème pie. On March 5, 1955, Jean Marie Dates married the late Daniel McKinley Johnson and out of there unite they had 7 children. Her oldest son Daniel, Jr. known as Dan-Dan proceed her in death. After successfully raising her children, she began her career as an educator of children for 32 years and 4 months. Retiring in January of 2000. Affectionally known as Mama Dear by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her close friends called her “J” her friends at the senior center called her Ms. Jean. Jean Marie loved all games of chance, going to the casino, playing cards with her siblings, bingo, Pokeno, and bowling for 40 years with the Starlighters. She loves to see and attend to the achievements of her children and grandchildren. Her favorite saying was “I GOT IT.” For the last 23 years she has spent her time volunteering at Gardenville Elementary School, Harford Senior Center, and a host of other organizations. She also sang on numerous choirs, Imani Choir, SPC Sanctuary Choir, St. Ambros Gospel Choir, and she was also an usher at SPC Church. ___________________________________________________________________ She leaves to mourn her 6 children Belinda Crockett (Tony, Sr-deceased), Denise Thomas (William), Deborah Smith (Emmanuel, Sr.), Danette Johnson, Kim Johnson (Phillip-deceased), Dana Johnson (Carolyn), brother Charles Edward Dates (Judy), 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 goddaughter Camille Williams, nieces, nephews, special friend Eleanor Bennett, and a host of family & friends.
