James Lewis Ellison

James L.Ellison, Sr. son of the late Henry William Ellison and Martha Ellison, was born on August 25, 1927 in Pitt County, North Caroline. He suffered a stoke in 1995, but did not give up on life. He fought hard to recover and lived life fully until God called him home on Tuesday, June 5, 2007.James was educated in the Public School System of Pitt County. He later met and married Wallace Brewington of Greenville, North Carolina. They moved to Baltimore, Maryland, from the union was born seven children.He served in World War in the United States Army and was a member of the Masonic Temple. He was employed at Edgewood Arsenal Company of Harford County, Har-win Parking Company of Baltimore County and Ginsberg Trucking Company of Baltimore, where he retired after 35 years.In 1962, James lost his wife to illness. His sister, the late Beatrice Ellison, assisted him in raising his children. Later, James gave his life to Christ and became a member of Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, under the guidance of Pastor Marshall Prentice.James was known for his smile and witty conversation. Most of his friends knew him as “Hambone “ or “Big Money James,” He enjoyed sports, especially baseball. The Baltimore Orioles was his favorite team. His favorite car was the Oldsmobile Ninety Eight with the signature air horns that let you know he was coming.James leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Icelene Goforth of New Haven, Connecticut; one aunt, Mable Hartwell of Baltimore, Maryland; 10 children: Dorothea Counts, Jacqueline Sellers, James Lewis Ellison, Jr., Stephanie Street, Barbara Bright, Regina Ellison, Sandra Ellison, Ethelyn Ellison-Kindell, Michael Ellison and Wallace Adkins-all of Baltimore, Maryland. He is preceded in death by one son, Dennis Maurice Ellison, one daughter, Patricia McQuarters, three sisters, Estella Boyd, Eva Simmons, Martha Kinard and three brothers, Thurman, Willie, and Grover Washington and one grandson, Denard Ellison, he is also survived by his grandchildren: Clarence, Jr. and Sinorya Sellers; Kara and Tonya Johnson; Charles, Jr. and Craig Clemmons; Alana Lightford, Melvin, Jr. and Justin Kindell; Kai Allen, Corey Adkins, Cayonna Webb, LeVar McLaughlin; Tyrone, Talisa and Taknesha Lewis; Tracy Burris, Sonia McQuarters; Dennis Jr., Cheyenne, and Diana Ellison, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
