The Legacy of Irving Crewe, Jr. I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times, laughing times, bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. On Friday, April 4, 2014, our beloved Irving Crewe, Jr., affectionately known as “Sing”, was called to glory and entered into eternal rest. Sing was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 11, 1955 to Iris and the late Irving Leon Crewe, Sr. of Charles City, Virginia. At an early age, he joined Gilfield Baptist Church. He graduated from Ruthville High School in 1973 and furthered his education at Virginia State University. Sing was a star athlete holding several championship records. After 32 years of dedicated service, on February 28, 2013, Sing retired from DuPont in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. Sing spent time going to thrift stores and surfing the net for car related items. He enjoyed tinkering with anything that dealt with Ford’s. Sing always had a sense of humor. He was known for his kind spirit, being a wonderful provider for his family and always lenting a helping hand. Even though his battle was rough, Sing was courageous and was a strong fighter until he received his calling from his Lord and Savior. Sing was an outstanding example of a very giving human being whom always managed somehow to put others before himself and his needs. He cared deeply for his family, friends and all of his loved ones. His children welcomed the quality time with their father and the daily phone calls he placed to his mother. Saturdays were a time Sing looked forward to when the entire family was together. He loved his family to no end and touched their lives in a very positive way. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. His funny stories and loving tall tales will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Each person who knew him has their own loving memories of their special relationship with him. Sing leaves to cherish his precious memories the love of his life a devoted wife of twenty-two years, Gail B. Crewe; loving children, Nicholas “Slim” and Samantha “Punkn´”; loving mother, Iris Crewe; two sisters, Sharon Logan (Fleming) and Avonda Bryant (Ronald); four brothers, Henry (Elaine), Stephen Sr., Michael Sr. and Ricky Crewe Sr. (Melissa); mother-in-law, Corine Bailey; sister-in-law, Annette Jacobs (Robert); godchildren, Briana Crewe and Michael Crewe Jr.; a host of other relatives; and friends, among them are devoted, Randolph Brown, Dixie Burrell, Rachel Greenhow and Brenda Miller. He touched so many in various ways and will be truly missed by all.
