Horace Edward Thomas

HORACE EDWARD THOMAS of Baltimore, Maryland was born on December 28, 1950 to the late, Ms. Ernestine Thomas. He was called to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Horace confessed Christ early in life, while attending the Friendship Baptist Church in Baltimore. He later became a faithful member of New Psalmist Baptist Church for over 25 years, where he served as a choir and usher board member. He was a kind man who allowed his faith and love for God to guide and lead him through life. Horace, was known by most as "Edward" or "Ed". He grew up attending Baltimore City Schools as well as gaining many skill sets from attending Job Corps. After trying several different jobs, he decided to work at St. Agnes Hospital. Working in the maintenance department, for over 30 years before retiring allowed him the opportunity to make life-long friendships and earn all types of recognition for demonstrating good work ethic. Ed loved his family with all of his heart and didn't have a problem showing it or telling it. He would catch you one on one and have a heart to heart with you about life and religion. Ed was a great advisor to his family and yet constantly demonstrated being humble. You never heard him complain about anything. He would show up to family functions with a smile, laugh and a joke. And if you told him that you were thinking about serving crabs, he would offer to pitch in and then show up 2 hours early to the event to make sure that he had first dibs. What Ed enjoyed most, was spending each day with Mrs. Vernell Thomas, his devoted and loving wife of 17 years. Nell stood by her husband's side all the way through and Ed truly enjoyed every moment with her. There is nothing that he wouldn't do for Nell, he just wanted her to be happy. Ed enjoyed visiting Good Shepherd Baptist Church on a regular basis. His wife has been a faithful and dedicated member for many years. Nell's church family embraced his presence and made him feel like a long member and Ed took advantage of that by showing up week after week with a smile. Ed made many friendships and will never be forgotten at Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Anyone who knew Ed, would know he loved being a Christian, spending his time completing word searches, buying a new tie every once in a while, attending wrestling matches and baseball games, playing tricks on his grandchildren by putting imaginary money in their hands. Ed was a simple man who just enjoyed life and if you asked him how he's doing, his response would be the same every time "I'm good...I'm blessed"! He was preceded in death by: Ernestine Thomas (Mom); Shawn Thomas (Son). He is survived by: his wife, Vernell Thomas: his children, Sonia, Shelly, Shirell and Donnel (Son-in-Law), Wanda and Jerome, Gail Thomas mother of children; grandchildren, Tiffany, Latanya, Aekeam, Glenn, Jasmine, Jaymee, Morgan, Monica, Kristian, Serenity, Briana, Melanie, Keon, Icis, India, Kasey, Connie, Bryson, Mia and Samaya; his sister, Ms. Carolyn Thomas, many nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family members and friends.
