Harold Edward Roberts Sr.

Mr. Harold Edward Roberts Sr., peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the age of 81 in Richmond, Virginia. Harold was born on July 11, 1937 to the late Norman and Mable Roberts in Goldsboro, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his sister, Doris Taylor and son, Harold Roberts, Jr. He went to elementary school in Goldsboro, North Carolina and attended Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia. At the age of 17, Harold enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed on ships from Norfolk, Virginia to Da Nang, Vietnam, and at the Navy Air Stations in Morocco and Antiqua, West Indies. He retired after 21 years of service at the Naval Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He later married and had 2 children, Rennette and Harold Jr., with his former spouse, Julia Mae Brown. Harold's second career was at the Alcoholic Beverage and Control in Richmond, Virginia. He worked there for 20 years before retiring from the Forest Hill location. Harold was a dedicated member of the Military Retirees Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10654, Richmond, Virginia. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the members. Harold enjoyed laughter and sharing stories from his past. He never met a stranger. He was an avid lover of jazz music and had a large collection of jazz memorabilia. Harold loved to dress up, swing dance, and travel with his long time partner, Pauline Ruffin. Harold loved his children and grandchildren. Location did not define the existing bonds that were built, and forever remain. Throughout the years, he was proud to just be around his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter, Rennette Isaac of Jacksonville, Florida; a son, Jason Roberts of Hyattsville, Maryland; two sisters, Ellen Cannon of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Wilma Roberts of Richmond, Virginia; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 7 nieces and 3 nephews; loving companion, Pauline Ruffin; devoted friends, Maya Ruffin, Pauletta Ruffin, and Alfred White. Also a host of other relatives and friends.
