Grace Hampton

A time to be born Our beloved Grace Mae Hampton was born December 18, 1932 in Effingham, SC. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to the Arthur and Louise Jones. A Time to Live Grace attended Wilson High School in Florence, SC. where she graduated in June 1953. From her most formative years her focus was styling hair. Like her peers, she left Florence, SC. and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she lived with her sisters. Rosa Lee, Pearline, and Janet Jones. She briefly work at Sinai Hospital in the Jewish Kitchen before realizing she had to follow her dreams and attend Apex Beauty School in Baltimore, MD. She graduated and became a licensed beautician. maintaining and sustaining her a business for over fifty years. Grace was a successful entrepreneur in the business of Cosmetology who left a legacy for others to follow Her niece Harriet was one of those who followed in her footsteps. Harriet "learned from the best" and because of Grace's influence. Harriet thrived as a hair stylist for forty years. A Time to Love While in Baltimore, Grace reunited with the Willie M. Hampton, her hometown friend. They married and became the parents of two daughters. Molly Denise Jones and Lisa Marie Hampton. She then became the blessed and proud grandmother to Steven Devone Jones and Tyron Reed and her whole life changed. Her world got even bigger and better when she became a great- grand mom to Blake Alexander Jones and Arabella Lilly Grace Jones. In Grace's world she also acknowledge Auria Grace Flowers as her Great-granddaughter. A Time to Serve As a child Grace attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Florence,SC. In Baltimore, MD. she joined and regularly attended Fountain Baptist Church along with her sisters, Rosa Lee, Pearl and Janet: they all remained lifetime members. At Fountain she was active in the Mass Choir and later joined Zebulon Tribe. A Time for Fun Family gatherings was one of Grace's delights, so much that she became a member of the first Jones Family Reunion committee that began in the 1980's. this is one of the greatest family traditions that is still carried on. Time with her sisters was precious. They supported and lift ed each other upfor a lifetime, having a lifetime of love. She praised the bridge that carried her and her sisters over many trials and tribulations of life. Never forgetting from whence she came, she would travel home to Florence for the Wilson High School Reunion. Once she received her driver's license she was on the move. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She would travel from Detroit, Michigan to South Carolina often. She enjoyed singing and loved gospel music. She also treasured her close friendships with Alice (sister), Eunice, Mary-Jane, Iris (Mickey) and Hattie (Janet) as they were inseparable during their younger years. During Grace;s later years, she would frequently call family and friends. She would need to know ... where you ar,e who you are with, what you are eating and most of all, whether you went to church on Sunday. There is a list of those who would get this special call: Harriet, Larry Bernadette, Arthen, Veda Mickey, Marie, (Re Re) Patsy, Leroy (Jr.),Sam, Chris Ronnie, Mr.Charles and the list goes on... She was so thankful for the men that was always there, Leroy, Angelo, Larry, Sam, John, Will, Tyrone and her grandsons. Still, they were the ones who loved up on her and spoiled her with goodies & special attention; Harriet, Robyn, Jackie, Pete, Dot, Wendell, Leroy (Jr,), Sam and Imani. A Time for Remembrance Grace is preceded by her husband, Willie M. Hampton and dad Arthur and Louise Jones, all eleven siblings Thelma, Mabel, Loretta, Ivory, Craven, Rosa Lee, Govenor, Pearline, Anne Louise, Arthur,(June), Janet, her favorite first cousins, Martha (Mott) Ulleyess Jones, Sister and Henry. A Time for Legacy She leaves to celebrate her memory , her daughter Molly Reed and Lisa Hampton (John); grandchildren, Steven Jones (Melissa) and Tyron Reed: great grandchildren, Blake and Arabella; god-daughter, Meagan Hughes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and extended family and friends.
