Legacy of Life The harvest does not speak of an untimely cutting down of the grain; rather it speaks of it being in its season. Therefore, the life lived by our departed loved one should not be viewed as untimely, but in its season, the season of God’s choosing. To live fully would involve growing physically, intellectually, and most of all spiritually to have a love and compassion for family. Embracing the appreciation for the one that gave life, gave provision, good or bad; realizing it all is granted possible through the blessings of Jesus Christ. On Friday, June 30, 2023, Gloria Jean Washington Clarke, 73, of Richmond, formerly of Harrisonburg was called home to be with her loved ones that have gone on before her. She was born March 12, 1950, in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Gratehouse Robert Washington and Hattie Mazure Turner Washington. She retired from the City of Richmond where she was a dedicated clerical worker for more than 20+ years. She met her husband Kenneth and they have been married for 33 years. They spent many years building a beautiful life and unbreakable love for one another. Gloria made sure that her husband’s lunch was always prepared before he left for work. She was an amazing cook that loved to spend time in the kitchen. Her special dish was baked chicken, rice, and string beans. Gloria was always willing to assist wherever and whenever help was needed. She was a homebody and quiet person. Gloria loved the Lord and remained strong in her faith and fought her battle courageously, with a strength and determination. Through her illness, her husband remained at her side with love and faithfulness. Gloria was a devoted wife, sister, auntie, and friend. She was a woman of grace, meekness, sophistication, fearfully and wonderfully made, a woman of God and platinum heart. She never gave up. She will be forever loved, missed, and cherished by many. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Washington and James Washington; and three sisters, Margaret Hoggard, Lorraine Washington and Sallie Squire. Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Kenneth Clarke; three sisters, Bernice Temple of Richmond, Dr. Shirley Washington of Maryland, and Mary Ann Martin of Harrisonburg; and a number of nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and dear friends.
