Garvan Hayes

Garvan Hayes, beloved daughter of the late Barbara Ann Shields and Garfield Hayes, was born on February 25, 1956 in Baltimore, MD. She departed this life on August 30, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Cookie, as she was affectionately called, received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public Schools System. She was employed as an Environmental Service Specialist for Genesis Elder Care for over twenty-one years. She was most recently employed at Healthcare Services Group until she retired in 2016. Sometime in the early 70’s, Cookie met Gary Berger and from this union, they became parents to Gary and Russell. She later met the love of her life, the late Benjamin Wright and from this union, they welcomed their son, Patron. Cookie’s “Boys” were her world and she loved them unconditionally. She affectionately called them, Gabby, Pele and Boola and they called her, Cook. She was blessed to have seven grandchildren and was a loving grandmother to them all. Cookie took on the role of mother to her siblings, Indie, Rodney Daniel, Raymond and Viva after the loss of their mother. She was always there for them and loved them dearly. Her favorite pastime was going to different Casinos and hanging out with her friends. She was the life of the party and you could always tell when she was near because of her infectious laughter. Cookie made numerous friends but she had a strong relationship with her work friends, Ms. Verlin, Mr. Mack, Mr. Hamm and Tyrone. Cookie loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going on trips and traveling with her cousins Jennine, Sharon, Cynthia and Annette. Cookie was blessed to receive Christ as her personal savior on August 29, 2018. To GOD be the GLORY!! To know Cookie was to love her. She will be dearly missed. She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Gary, Russell and Patron; her sisters, India (Kenneth), Viva (Nathaniel) and Jennine; her brothers, Rodney Daniel (Denise), Raymond and Keion; her uncle, James (Angela); her grandchildren, Monte, Brittany (Eric), Donyiel, Shabria, Shatiera, Destini and Makayla; her great grandchildren, Tyler, Tylea, Skylar, Jerimiah, Harmony and Jayla; her nieces, Zykia, Taylor, Tori and Tyson; her nephews, Rodney, Pernell, Kendall, Kendrick and Kenyon; and a host of great-nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
