Furman Lee Roberts, Sr.

FURMAN LEE ROBERTS, SR. was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on April 4, 1947. He was the son of the late Hilbert and Frances Roberts. He departed this life on October 22, 2021. Three of his siblings preceded him in death, Thomas, Earline and Jeanette. As a child, his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System and completed his education at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Furman’s spiritual growth began at a young age when he joined New Fountain Baptist Church. When he was unable to attend church, he would enjoy services via Television and/or Social Media. He enjoyed listening to gospel music as well as “Oldies but Goodies” and watching his favorite TV show, “Blue Bloods.” Working out was also a passion of his. He was employed as a maintenance worker for the Baltimore City Public School System for thirty-five years. Furman met the “love of his life”, the former Brenda Leighton and on August 16, 1980 they were united in marriage. They would often enjoy weekend strolls and dinner at the Inner Harbor and their annual trips to Delaware and Pennsylvania. As his health was declining, he insisted that she not worry about him and constantly informed her that “he would be alright.” Furman was a loving, caring and devoted husband and father of two sons, Furman Robert, Jr. and Thomas Roberts; and three daughters, Diana Roberts, Tonya Roberts Jackson and Delphine Backus. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of forty-one years, Brenda Roberts; two sons, Furman Roberts, Jr. and Thomas Roberts; three daughters, Diana Roberts, Tonya Roberts Jackson and Delphine Backus; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Timothy, Wilson, Mia, Furman III (AKA Tray), Khari, Taeyah, Latonya McLaurin Martin (Edward) and Johnathon; nine great-grandchildren, Jubilee, Christina, Paris, Anastasia, Aliceanna, Avonnia, Azrel, Aston and Montel; one brother, Hilbert Roberts, Jr.; two sisters, Brenda Roberts and Beatrice Roberts; two daughters-in-law, Edna Roberts and Monique Roberts; three brothers-in-law, David Leighton, Nathan Leighton and Phillip Leighton; four sisters-in-law, Jeanette Bruce, Gwendolyn Leighton, Julia Leighton and Lucy Leighton; nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
