Emma Izzard

Mrs. Emma Izzard, daughter of the late Raymond Matthews and Readis McDowell Matthews Jackson was born on July 12, 1939 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. Mother Izzard departed this life March 2, 2016. Mother Izzard was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County, South Carolina. Mother Izzard was united in Holy Matrimony to Frank Izzard. This union was blessed with three children; Cristena, Rose, and Timothy Sr. She and her husband moved to New York, and then settled in Baltimore, MD. Mother Emma joined Mason Memorial COGIC, under the leadership of the late Pastor Cornelius B. Washington, and First Lady Alcanesia Washington. They were very dear to her heart as close friends could be. She valued the teaching and preaching and enjoyed the melodious voices that rang from the choir loft causing her to give a sounding praise. After Pastor Washington’s demise, she maintained membership under Pastor Larry Newkirk. During her tenure at Mason, she served on the Pastoral Care and Mother’s Board Ministries. Due to health challenges in 2013, Mother Izzard moved her membership and connected with Perfecting Prayer & Praise Ministries COGIC, under the leadership of Pastor Randy and Co-Pastor Grace Spann. Mother Izzard opened a home daycare business in West Baltimore. She earned many certifications, accolades, and accommodations from the city of Baltimore. Mother Izzard’s daycare was well known in the Baltimore City Social Services department as a place where abused or neglected children could be placed in an effort to rebuild, nourish, and renew the health of those children. Her daycare had a long waiting list of children, whose parents knew she would take the absolute best care of their children. She was well known within her community and Baltimore City for having a 5-star rated daycare. Mother Izzard was loved by people of all ages. People would love to listen to her words of wisdom, while sitting at her kitchen table with a plate of Hogs Maws & Chitterlings, Pigs Feet, or Turkey Wings, “The BEST” collard greens in the world, and a bowl of rice and gravy……. Everyone knew every day in her home on the stove was a “Pot of Rice”. Mother Izzard was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers. She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Cristena Matthews, Rose Carter (Stanley), Timothy Izzard Sr.; Grandsons, Nelson Stroman, Jr. (Renee), Ryan Parker, Jr., Timothy Izzard, Jr.; Great-Grandchildren, Tabitha Tiffany Stroman, Joshua Jeremiah Stroman, and Ryan Isaiah Parker; Sister, Louise Matthews of Philadelphia, PA. along with a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and dear friends; very special friends, Sissy Bell, Linda Battle, and James Malloy. Mother you are free now. No worries, stress, confusion or pain. Your family and friends have many stories and will remember you with love and laughter.
