Dorothy E Thomas

Dorothy Elizabeth Thomas, the first born of three daughters of the late Isaiah Thomas and Elizabeth Peters Thomas was born in Bishopville, South Carolina. Dorothy departed this earthly life on April 19, 2016 to be with her heavenly father. She began her education in the South Carolina public school system and continued her education in the Baltimore City public school system after the family moved to Baltimore in 1957. “Dot” as she was affectionately known, gave her live to Christ and was baptized at Jones Tabernacle Baptist Church. She graduated from Southern High School in 1963. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Coppin State University. Dot worked tirelessly for 42 years in the Baltimore Public School System. During her tenure with the school system she acquired many friendships which she maintained until the present. She also established many other friendships throughout her personal life. Her friendships included a great relationship with members of the Western High School Class of 1964. This group included two cousins Marietta and Romaine, the bond of which was so close they made her an honorary member of the Class of ’64. Dot was loved and admired by all who knew her. She had a generous, loving, and giving spirit. Dorothy loved her family and had a specially relationship with her sisters. She loved spending time with her entire family. In her spare time she loved to watch westerns, travel, and most of all SHOP! She was blessed to be able to travel to the Mediterranean with her beloved mother and grandson, which was one of her dream vacations. Dot felt like her entire life was blessed and she had an abiding faith in God. She leaves to cherish her memory: her 2 sisters, Bernice Thomas of Baltimore, MD and Ora Lee Moore of Philadelphia, PA; one grandson, Darius Hewlett; five nieces and nephews; two uncles & aunts, Benjamin Peters (Alice Peters) and Rev. Wesley Peters (Ruth Peters) of Myrtle Beach, SC; two additional aunts, Barbara Peters of Englewood, NJ and Von Peters of Camden, SC; one brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Bernard Wilks of Newark, NJ and a loving and devoted companion, James Reid (the Reid Family). She was preceded in death by her daughter Latrelle Hewlett and her sister Annette Wilks.
