Dorothy Jones

DOROTHY JONES, daughter of the late Phillip A. and Bessie E. Truiett was born on March 10, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2012. She received her education at Frederick Douglass High School, the Calhoun and Baker Street Campus. As a child she worshiped at Douglass Memorial Church where she sang on the choir with her brothers and sisters. Dorothy was employed briefly with the City of Baltimore Police Department as a Crossing Guard. Dorothy was married to the late James H. Jones and from this union six children were raised. Family was important to Dorothy. She loved to entertain her family and prepared delicious meals. She was a loving and giving person to all. Dorothy or Granny will always be remembered for knitting blankets and giving them away to family and friends. Whenever you would visit, she would have all kinds of snacks to share. She was always ready with open arms to give advice and let you know you could depend on her. Her words of encouragement would be, “The sun will shine on your side of the street, hold your head up.” Dorothy was preceded in death by two sons, Harry T. Coates; sister, Alice Allen; two brothers, Phillip Truiett, Jr. and Melvin Truiett and grand-daughter, Karen M. Johnson. She leaves to mourn: two sons, Henry N. Coates, Jr. and Donald E. Coates; two daughters, Gloria E. Johnson and Sylvia M. Parmlee; two sisters, Bessie Christopher and Gwendolyn Brown; two daughter-in-law, Ella Coates and one brother-in-law, Ronnie Brown; two daughter-in-law, Ella Coates and Selena Coates; twenty grandchildren, Sharon Clark, Robin Waters, Yvonne Sharps, Jacqueline Allen, Henry N. Coates, Steven T. Coates, Letitia Blowe, Gregory T. Johnson, Kevin M. Johnson, Joan Coates, Shelia Coates, LaTonya Coates, Donald E. Coates, Jr., Shekeyda Coates, Kennth Adkins, Daryl Adkins; Artina Lester, Reginald L. Macer, Jr., Maria Y. Parmlee and Nicole Burton; thirty-seven great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; goddaughters, Sandra Milburn and Joan Sutton; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
