Dorene Evelyn Williams

Dorene E. Williams departed this life November 23,2012. She was born on September 10,1934 to the late Marvin A. Wright and Mary E. Wright of Sussex County,VA. Dorene received her education in the Sussex County School System. Dorene accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age with Bethlehem Baptist Church of Emporia,VA. where she served faithfully until relocating to Richmond,VA. After relocating to Richmond she attended various churches in the area until she found a home at Great Hope Baptist Church in the 1992. God touched her heart and she joined the Loyal Ladies Usher Board where she served faithfully. She moved to Richmond,VA in 1950 and she became employed by Richmond Public School System and she served dutifully for twenty-two years. In 1992 Dorene retired as the Head Cook. She also worked part-time for Bon Air Correctional Center for over eight years,and worked part-time catering around the City of Richmond at various hotels. In addition she accepted a job with Cool Springs Baptist Church in 1987 where she worked until her second retirement. Dorene loved working so much that after her retirement;she continued her employment part-time with Cool Springs Baptist Church until her calling from the Lord. She was known without ever missing a day for over sixty-five years. Her favorite saying was"let the work I've done speak for me". She would cook and hum old spiritual hymns. She also loved hearing GHBC Male Chorus,other Male Choirs and Quartet singers. In her leisure she enjoyed cooking,decorating her home and caring for children and others. She loved to laugh and joke,she was a jewel so full of life. She was a dedicated reliable mother and grandmother who prayed faithfully for her family. She looked foward to seeing all her family but most of all her day or weekend wasn't completed until she heard or saw her heart Naseer(Seal). To know our mother and grandmother was to love her. She loved her family and friends dearly and participated in all family events and gatherings. Dorene was proceeded in death by her husband,Mr. Henry Williams;parents Mr. and Mrs. Marvin A. Wright;brothers Willie Lee and Marvin T. Wright;sisters Mable Person and Betty Doby. She leaves to cherish her memory;daughter,Deacon Marilyn Williams-Lee(Victor) of Richmond;son Eric A. Williams of Louisville,KY;grandchildren Shari,Reavell and Erika Williams of Richmond and Erin Page of Alexandria;great-grandchildren Jahiya Williams,Taylor and Isaiah Kerns and Messiah Smith,and one devoted Naseer Smith of Richmond;her devoted companion for 44 years,James P. Jackson,Jr.;two aunts Mary Watkins of Chesapeake and Carrie Forbes of Emporia,one uncle,Joseph Wright (Annie Lee) of emporia;one sister-in-law Bernice Wright;one aunt-in-law Lucille Wright of Richmond;host of nieces,nephews,other relatives and friends. Special thanks to great-grandson,Naseer Smith,who was with her in her final hour.
