Darene Keeve Gee

On September 19, 1961.Darene Sharon Keeve, daughter of Samuel Keeve and the late Alma Wiggins Keeve, was born in Northumberland County, Virginia. She was the youngest born to this union. “Pretty”, as she was called by siblings of “Doll” as she was lovingly called by her mother, accepted Christ at First Baptist Church in Heathsville, Virginia at an early age. Upon moving to Richmond, she united with Bethlehem Baptist Church on Fairmont Avenue. Darene was educated in the Northumberland County Public Schools, graduating from Northumberland High School in 1979. After she graduated, she moved to Richmond, Virginia where she furthered her education at the Pan American Business School. On September 16, 1983, Darene S. Keeve was united in matrimony with Given D. Rice of Heathsville, VA. Their union was blessed with two children. After her marriage to Given dissolved, Darene married Claiborne H. Gee, Jr, of Richmond on April 6, 1991. Darene was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond as an administrative assistant for 25 years. Until her passing, she was a dedicated worker as a DSP at J&D Residential and Richmond Residential services. Her siblings described her as being very family oriented, hands-on, thrifty and hardworking. Her grandsons lovingly described her as being nice, fun, loving, caring and unselfish. She took pleasure in being around her family, especially her grandchildren. During her spare time, Darene enjoyed collecting hearts. On Wednesday, December 16, 2015, Darene peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord. There she met her mother, Alma Wiggins Keeve; two foster brothers; Robert Taylor and Bobby Lucas; a brother-in-law, Terry A. Blackstone, Sr.; two nephews: Darius Toulson, Sr. and Gregory Carter, Jr. and her honorary mother, Constance Barrett. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Samuel D. Keeve of Reedville, VA(Barbara);a son, Kevin T. Rice, of Richmond,VA.;a daughter, Kendra S. Rice of Richmond, VA(John);two grandsons; Samuel Keevon and Kennard; six sisters; Alice K. Blackstone of Manassas,VA;Joanne K. Berry of Chester, VA (Willie);Debra K. Parker of Healthsville,VA (James);Helen K. Jordan of College Park, GA (Donald);Sandra K. Green of Heathsville,VA;Michele C. Toulson of Reedville, VA(Lytteton);one brother, Gregory O. Carter of Heathsville, VA (Laura May);a foster brother,Altemus Ward of Washington,DC;a host of loving and devoted aunts,uncles,nieces and nephews; a goddaughter,QuaMeisha Barnes; and a host of family and friends.
