Cornelius Wiggins

Cornelius Wiggins, daughter of the late Horace Diggs (Big Daddy) and Lether Route (Mother Dear), was born on Monday, August 20, 1934 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Cornelius departed this life after enduring a lengthy illness on Monday, August 20, 2018. Cornelius moved to Baltimore, Maryland at a young age and attended the Baltimore City School System. She worked various job positions in the state of Maryland however, her most important job was being a faithful housewife and caring for her children and grandchildren. For more than fifty years, Sister Wiggins was a dedicated and faithful member of East Baltimore Deliverance Church. Her spirit of praise and worship would move throughout the congregation just like fire! She served on the East Baltimore Deliverance Usher Board and worked as a Supervisor for the Baltimore City Summer Job Program at East Deliverance Church. Cornelius' favorite hobbies were: listening to Heaven 600 and WWIN 1400 gospel radio stations in her kitchen. She loved to cook, play games with her children and watch sports. Her favorite television show was watching "Westerns" All The Time! If you knew Cornelius, you would always catch her with a western movie on the television. Cornelius also loved to go to the park every summer with her family. She would rise early in the morning so that we would be close to the water and sit under a shaded tree. Sometimes she would taker her children two or three times a year. Cornelius will be most affectionately remembered by her children and some of the neighborhood children for Thursday Night Bible Study. Her children and neighborhood friends would impatiently wait for those hot sausage links and pancakes after Bible study. Cornelius was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother and a Aunt to so many, adults and children alike, not just her biological family. In her Christ-like way, she showed love and affection to all who she met. She was a friend to all that knew her and loved by so many. Cherishing the memories of Cornelius' life are: her fifteen children, Crystal Johnson, Beverly (Shanmugam) Karalasingham, Howard Charles Quinn, Albert Wiggins, Frances Elizabeth Wiggins (Maurice) Russell, Sharon Wiggins, Sandra Wiggins, Augusta Sheldon Wiggins, Nathaniel R. (Pheobia) Wiggins, Cornelius Frances "Linda" Wiggins, Barbara Ann (Pedro) House, Marion (Albert) Davis, Christine (Gilbert) Savoy, Howard Curtis Wiggins, Marsha (Edward) Matthews, four sisters-in-law, Gladys B. Young, Dorothy Filmore, Mary Wiggins and Stella Wiggins; twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, twenty great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Cornelius was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Augusta Wiggins; one sister Cora Lee Bey, a grandson, Gilbert Gary Savoy, a great-grandson, Raymond Savoy Jr. and a great-great-grandson Rayshawn Owens.
