Clarence Winfield Young

Clarence Winfield Young, son of the late Benjamin and Nettie Young was born in the community of Glenelg in Howard County Maryland. Clarence attended grade school at Cooksville elementary and completed his education graduating from Harriet Tubman High School. In high school, Clarence a was a member of the Future Farmers of America an organization the that awarded and recognized students for their exceptional abilities to produce successfully crops and work with farm animals. Clarence raised pigs and chickens at the family home on Rover Mill Road. He enjoyed crating imaginative cartoons and singing with a community quartette. He later joined the U S Air force were his tour of duty included being stationed in Japan and Florida. After leaving the military he worked in construction as a cement mason.Clarence married Leota Parker and from this union Urenia and Clarence Jr., were born. He later married Emma Owens and they resided in Jessup, Maryland.Clarence was a member in god standing at Masadonia Baptist Church in Ellicott City, Maryland and performed many of the remodeling jobs on the church. Clarence loved working in his yard and on his home. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the many gatherings at his home in Jessup. Clarence could always be found cooking at the grill during these gatherings-for which he received the honorable title of “CHIEF BOYORDEE”from family and friends. He was a dependable friend and neighbor and could be counted on to help out in any situation; nothing was ever too much to ask of him.Clarence leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 23 years Emma; daughter, Urenia; son, Clarence Jr., one daughter-in-law, Kris Ann; three grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle and Lyrick; four brothers, Albert Samuel, Carl and Charles; two sisters, Helen Johnson and Edna Johnson; six sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. One special and devoted friend Fisky.Brothers Franklin, Raymond, Melvin and sisters Geneva West, Nettie Dorsey and Annie Rheubottom predeceased Clarence.Clarence’s memory will be cherished and held dearly in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. The sound of his laughter will resound in our hearts and his smile will shine bright in our memory of him. His zest for life will be seen in the thing that he created with his hands. When you see a bird flying high and free think of me, when you look out and catch sight of a rabbit or squirrel think of me. When the sweet smell of flowers fill the air think of me. When you hear the happy sounds of children at play and the glow of the sun on a warm summer’s day think of me. When the leaves fall from the trees and lie gently on the ground and the day becomes quiet think of me. When family and friends have all gone home remember that you are not alone.
