Catherine G. James

On May 1, 1933 Horace and Susie Mae Blackstone of Howard County, Maryland became parents of their second of nine children, she was named CATHERINE. This child would grow and develop as one of God's faithful servants. Her abundant life has yielded virtuous fruit, overwhelming love and a lifetime of fulfillment. The former Catherine Blackstone was educated in the Howard County Public School System, Harriet Tubman High School. Catherine accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the St. Stephens A.M.E. Church in Howard County, Maryland, then under the pastorate of Rev. Frank Gray. There you could find the young Catherine experiencing her early Christian development. As a young adult, she joined Bethany Baptist Church in 1957, then under the leadership of Rev. Clinton Johnson. Later, she met the love of her life, the late Harrison B. James (affectionately known as Harry), with whom she shared more that forty years of marriage until he departed his life in the year of 1998. Harry and Catherine James were the proud parents of two beautiful children, Charles "Boots" and Linda. She joined Union Bethel A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles T. Sembly where she was faithful, committed and a dedicated servant to the Union Bethel family which includes the PROJECT BASIC Children's Ministry and whatever she could do for God to get the glory out of her life! She was a very pleasant, fun loving and comical person, always smiling, sharing joyous laughter and lots of love to the very day of her going home with Jesus. Her cooking specialties included pig feet, potato salad, macaroni and cheese. Catherine loved to host family and friends gatherings. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory and miss her radiant smile two loving children, Charles A. Blackstone and Linda M. Mickle. Also, she is survived by four grandchildren, Charles Jr., Larry Jr., Kelly, and Charde; great-granddaughter, Shayna Blackstone; two sisters, Shirley Lee, and Bessie mae Dacus; two brothers, Thomas and Melvin Blackstone (Carol Ann, Nathan, Buddy Harding, Glenn preceded her in death); godson, Garrett Turner Jr.; aunt, Rev. Edith Fields; uncle, Rev. Seawood Blackstone; daughter-in-law, Sharon Blackstone; (son-in-law, Larry Mickle preceded her in death); five sisters-in-law, Ernestine Blackstone, Rosetta James, Virginia Watkins, Connie James, Mae Beads; five brothers-in-law, Eugene Dacus, Herbert Lee, Charles James, Raymond James; a devoted friend, John Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a church wide family.
