Bernie Mae Hilton

Sister Bernie Mae Hilton, born April 19, 1951 to the late Elder Annie Mable Briggs-Hilton and Johnnie Hilton in Baltimore, Maryland. Sister Bernie departed this life suddenly on Saturday, September 3, 2005 around 9:43a.m.Sister Bernie was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1970. Sister Bernie was affectionately known by all her family as “Rabbit” or “Big Red”. She enjoyed being at family gatherings, cooking out, and traveling. She recently spent three weeks in Pensacola, Florida with her sister Carrie and her family just before her passing. She is lovingly remembered as the one family member that kept everyone laughing and joyful. When she wasn’t able to travel or leave her home, Sister Bernie would stay in touch with her friends and family by telephone, especially during snowstorms. She was just a fun loving individual to be around. She was well loved by all. Sister Bernie was employed as a teacher’s aide at Baer School during the early 70’s. She also worked for a short while at KFC, she was a care provider of the elderly and she held a variety of other jobs and positions throughout her lifetime.Sister Bernie Mae Hilton received Christ at an early age. She was baptized in Jesuœ name and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost as the spirit gave utterance under the late Bishop Ruth Irene Allen at Zion Tabernacle. As a member of Zion Tabernacle, she sang on the choir and was a member of the usher board. Later on in her life she joined and became a member of Solid Rock Apostolic Faith Church, Inc., where she was a faithful member until her death under the leadership of Pastor Barbara Abraham. Sister Bernie loved to praise God and have church. From time to time Sister Bernie would call around to her family and invite them to church. She loved having her family in church with her.Sister Bernie Mae Hilton leaves to cherish fond memories: five sisters, Elder Janie M. Hilton, of Baltimore, Sister Lillie Matthews, of Baltimore, Annie Morant, of Baltimore, Minister Carrie Durant (Overseer Tommie), Pensacola, Florida, and Sister Ruth Ann Hurtt, of Baltimore; three brothers, R.J. Hilton (Lendora) of Baltimore, Deacon Johnnie L. Hilton (Carolyn) of South Carolina, and Rufus Guy Hilton, Sr. of Baltimore and Elizabeth Hilton, (sister-in-law); eight aunts, Aunt Dorothy Singletary of Baltimore, Aunt Lillian Brown of Baltimore, Aunt Bernice Hilton of Baltimore, Aunt Clara Peterson of South Carolina, Aunt Annie Liza Hilton of South Carolina, Aunt Audrey Briggs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Aunt Winifred Briggs of Florida and Aunt Eloise Briggs of New York; two uncles, Uncle Floyd Briggs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Uncle Eugene Wilson of South Carolina, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; two godchildren, Nicole of South Carolina and Kyron of Baltimore, two special friends, Mary Cawthorne and Patricia Cost and her church family Solid Rock Apostolic Faith Church, Inc.
