Barbara Jean Roberts

BarBara Jean roBerTS, the first born to the late Lena Franklin Daniels Carter and Willie John Daniels, was born December 5, 1942 in Emporia, Virginia. Barbara had two sisters, Edith Dunn and Sandra Holt. Barbara then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her mother and two sisters, and later relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Barbara received her diploma from Dunbar High School, Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1961. She attended Cortez Peters' Business School where she received a Certificate of Completion. Barbara retired as a Supervisor in 1994 from Honeywell, formerly known as Bendix, contracted through NASA. While at Honeywell, she received several Certificates and additional training. After Barbara's retirement, she worked part-time for Baltimore County Public Schools, where she assisted the students in the school cafeteria. Barbara met Harold Scruggs and then they were later married in 1963. Six months later, Barbara was widowed. She later married the late Joe Louis (Wylie) Roberts in 1969. Under this union was born one son, Courie Daniel Roberts. Barbara accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of Fulton Baptist Church. She later joined New Christian Memorial Church and remained a member until her passing. Barbara was a no nonsense kind of woman. She said what she meant and meant what she said. She always kept it real. Barbara was very well respected. Even at a young age she was looked upon as a role model by her peers. She was meticulous about her home; no matter when you visited, her home was always spotless. She loved her lawn and her flowers, just like mother. She had an open heart and it was evident. She was a phenomenal cook and she loved everyone. If you knew Barbara, you knew not to go into her pots and pans while she was cooking. You'd better wait until she fixed your plate! She was always known to be the first to have the latest technology and enjoyed showing them off. Barbara was the neighborhood Block Captain of the Huntington Community Association. Nothing could get by her without her knowing. She was known to have binoculars close by. She was very active in her community and was loved and respected by all her neighbors. She will be missed by all! Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Courie Daniel Roberts; step- son, Daryl Roberts and daughter-in-law, Kendra Chavon Roberts; grandchildren, Janae, Amari, Kori, Antonio, Raequan, Donnell, Malaki and Lakhi; sisters, Edith Dunn and Sandra Holt; Clara (Doll) Carroll, who was like a sister growing up; god-daughter Pebbles, daughter of her late best friend Peggy Moulton; one aunt and three uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; in-laws, Willa Mae, Flora, and James; and loving friends.
