Barbara A. McKenny Barr

Barbara McKenny Barr , was born in Baltimore, MD on February 12, 1935 to the union of Herman and Annie Dora Hardee, both of whom preceded her in death. Barbara was the third of her five siblings. Barbara attended Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Douglas High School in 1954. Following high school, she married James Oliver Robinson, who preceded her in death. Out of this union two children were born, Reginald and Ronald. She later married Walter McKenny, and from this union was born one son, Jerry. They shared a happy and memorable union until his death in 1995. Barbara was blessed to share her senior years with Nathaniel Barr, whom she married in 2002. Barbara loved to take care of Nathaniel. They enjoyed their life together traveling with family and friends and participating in church and other social activities until his death in 2017 Barbara was baptized at an early age. During her Christian walk, she was a committee chairwoman at City Temple Baptist Church, a Deaconess at Dalton Baptist Church and finally, an active member at the Church of Christ, Baltimore County. Barbara began her work career as a sales associate at Hochschild Kohn’s Department Store; later acquiring a position as Office Assistant I in the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, a position she greatly enjoyed. She later worked as a childcare assistant at Winnie The Poo Daycare Center, which was more fun for her than work Barbara was a very special person who was loved by all who knew her. There was a special bond between her siblings—they were their own best friends. They could sit and talk for hours—all at the same time. She was a giving person, always thinking of others—never herself. Her special hobby was recognizing special occasions of her family and friends. She loved to send them cards, especially remembering everyone’s birthday. She was so organized, everything had its place. Barbara departed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 6, 2017. She was surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Reginald (Lynee); Ronald (Karen); and Jerry; one daughter, Cynthia Jefferson (Jeff); two stepsons, Nathaniel Barr, Jr.; Timothy Barr; one stepdaughter, Delores Tyson; one sister, Shirley Motley; one brother, Donald Hardee (Anne); five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
