Annie A. Perry

ANNIE ALBERTA PERRY was the only child of the late William C. Flood and Annie Beatrice Hollomon born on November 16, 1933, in Harrellsville, North Carolina. God called her home on May 25, 2021. Annie grew up on a farm. Favorite activities included collecting and storing tobacco, gardening, and playing in North Carolina creeks with cousins and friends. She also enjoyed attending and serving in church. Annie grew up in a multigenerational home, among her mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Some of Annie’s fondest memories included reading, solving crossword puzzles, and learning to drive. Annie’s enthusiasm toward driving earned her the teenage privilege of operating a local school bus in her community. Annie received her education in segregated schools. She graduated from C.S. Brown High School in Winton, North Carolina. Her favorite start to a typical school day included the singing of the hymn, “Have Thine Own Way Lord” and striving to earn excellent grades. At the age of nineteen, Annie married her childhood friend, William L. Perry Jr. of Harrellsville, North Carolina, on September 8, 1953. Annie and William moved to Baltimore, Maryland in the 1950s and started a family. From this union four children were born; Renee, Vanessa, William III, and Keith. Annie and her family moved to Mortimer Avenue in 1969. Annie’s days were lovingly highlighted by cooking Southern cuisine from scratch, talking with neighbors, watching soap operas, and doting on her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Annie was employed and retired from Rosewood State Hospital as a cook for 29 years. She took pride in her knowledge about a variety of food preparation styles to meet the dietary needs of Rosewood’s residents. Annie is survived by: three children, Renee Perry, Vanessa Stanley (spouse Malcolm) and Keith D. Perry; (her eldest son, William L. Perry III preceded her in death); four grandchildren, Aaron Walker (spouse Shanae), Khristan Adelwale (spouse Seun), Emmanuel Stanley, and Isaiah Stanley; six great-grandchildren, Camaira Walker, Faith Walker, Gabrielle Walker, Modupe Adewale, Seyi Adewale and Dimeji Adewale; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
