Andrew Yarborough

Andrew Yarborough, son of the late Malinda Mallory and Luthur Yarborough, was born in Edgemere, MD on December 7, 1917. He was called home on July 16, 2009. Andrew received his education in the Baltimore County School System and later attended Dunbar High.He was joined in marriage to the former Elsie Underwood on November 27, 1937. From this union, they adopted one son, the late Alexander Anderson. On February 11, 2005 he married Hermenia Brown and remained a devoted husband until his death.Andrew joined the United States Navy in August 1943. He received an Honorable Discharge in January 1946. Upon returning from the Navy, Andrew accepted a position with Western Electric where he worked for over thirty years until his retirement.Andrew accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church of Edgemere, MD under the pastorate of the late Reverend Peter Jennings. He later joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Baltimore, MD. Andrew was an active member of his church participating in the Men’s Choir. Andrew volunteered in his community by teaching Bible Study at the Forest Park Senior Center.Andrew joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8509 in 1953, and during this time held position of 2nd Commander. He was also a faithful member of the Masonic, Mount Sinai Lodge #433 F&M where he served as Past Commander.Andrew was loveable, humorous and caring to his family and friends. He had a personality that could capture an audience by displaying his marvelous charm and wit. He was a very spiritual person who loved to talk about the goodness of God. Andrew and his niece (Charlene King) did this every Thursday.An opportunity arose several months ago which afforded Andrew the opportunity to live with four special loved ones. His three nieces (Yvette, Yvonne and Shakeira) and one nephew (Robert) cared for him, shared special times and created a bond that will be cherished for a lifetime.He leaves to treasure his memory his wife, Hermenia; sister, Beatrice Dowdy of Baltimore; one sister-in-law, Priscilla Taylor; three stepchildren, Sylvester, Kevin and Kimberly Brown; four step grandchildren, Jamal, Raven, Kevin, and Rodney; one goddaughter, Kendra Boyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.The family of Andrew Yarborough, would like to especially thank Ms. Charlene Barnes (a long time friend) for all her help and support with the care of our Uncle.
