Amir Nya Whyee

AMIR NYA WHYEE, beloved son of Lavern Denise Woodland and Daniel Whyee, was born on July 28, 2000 and departed this earthly life on December 1, 2021. Amir was rooted in christian beliefs and raised with strong Catholic values at his home parish of St. Peter Claver & St. Pius V Church where he was baptized, received Holy Communion and was confirmed. Serving God through attending Sunday school, CYO and being an Altar Server guided his love for the Lord and accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. The Word guided Amir to be very compassionate toward everyone. His smile and laugh would light up the world. To Amir, family was first. One especially memorable trip for Amir was with The Livers’ Family to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a bus full of cousins getting to spend a week together to create lasting memories that would forever bond the family. That strong male bond continues today. Amir received his education in both Public and Catholic Schools. His primary years were at Gwynns Falls Elementary School and ACCE Academy (Academy for College and Career Exploration). For high school, Amir attended Cristo Rey Jesuit School where he benefited from internships at Constellation Energy and Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation. He played Junior Varsity Basketball and Varsity Lacrosse.. He then spent his senior year at Saint Frances Academy where he graduated with honors on June 3, 2018. He then attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) majoring in Biochemistry and was in his third year of coursework. His athletic abilities became evident at an early age because Amir loved to climb, run, and somersault. Flag football with Gwynns Falls 49ers set the stage for his athleticism; gymnastics, squash, lacrosse, and basketball were his passions. Whether on a team or playing just for fun, he would spend hours being physical. His most favorite sport was squash and was a member of the Squash Wise Team for years. He traveled to other states to compete in tournaments. His competitive nature was even in his hobby of gaming. A strong work ethic was his immediate family’s mantra. He spent summers employed at Quality Huts Mid Atlantic (Pizza Hut), Amazon COM Services LLC, and United Parcel Services. Being part of a family that travels extensively, Amir could be found participating in chess challenges with adults on cruises as far away as The Mediterranean, playing basketball and swimming with new acquaintances in Williamsburg, Virginia, and exploring tropical rain forests in Saint Kitts. Amir was quiet with an outgoing personality. His gentle spirit is what made him so humble when it came to acknowledging his many abilities. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Lavern Woodland; caring father, Daniel Whyee; loving brother, Jabari Sei Whyee; aunts, Charlotte McIver (Benjamin), Rochelle Woodland, Kathy Woodland Outlaw (Linwood); uncle, James Woodland (Naomi); cousins, Kyle Woodland (Lisa), Dante McIver, Linwood Outlaw III, Kiya Outlaw, Kaylie Woodland, Kayden Woodland, Makaila McIver; godbrother, Matthew McNeil; godmother, Deborah; special friend, Asia Glenn; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
