Alfred Harris Sr.

On a wonderful day in 1936,April 27,Robert B. and India Ann Harris was blessed with a new addition to their family,Alfred Harris,Sr. As with all parents who made sure their children grew up in a Christian environment. They also believed that sparing the rod spoils the child,therefore,along with large doses of love came doses of discipline(Except for the girls). He was raised on a farm working alongside his father and other siblings. He was baptized at an early age and attended the Williams Grove RZUA Church. Upon graduating from East End High School in South Hill,VA.,Alfred got a job driving the County school bus. Anyone would tell you that he had the cleanest bus in the county. Later,Alfred moved to Richmond,VA. and met and married the love of his life,Betty Mae Easley. This union was blessed with six children. Alfred worked for the Richmond Redevelopment Housing Authority for quite a while. He later went to work at Philip Morris on contract with Aramark Corporation where he worked as a baker-the best. He enjoyed his job. He did great creations with those cakes-whether it was a sheet cake or a regular cake. Al was a quiet man, a man of wisdom and pride. He loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the news and reading the newspaper-He was always up on the current events. Al rededicated his life to the Lord ,about 15 years ago,while watching Billie Graham on TV. And when he went home,we(Twanna,Janet and Elzena made sure he knew he was going home to be with the Lord and HE KNEW! Alfred's parents preceded him in death as well as 4 brothers.The love of his life,Betty Mae also preceded him in death. With the help of God,he maintained his promise to her to keep and raise all the children together(they were all quite young at the time). He did a wonderful job-no he was not a perfect parent but he was a great parent to take on such an assignment. So today,Alfred leaves six wonderful children to celebrate his life and homegoing;Larry Easley(Carolyn).Twanna Brooks(Percell)of Henrico;Janet Pegeas;Jacqueline Moore(Larry),Alfred Harris,Jr. and Paul Harris of Richmond. He also leaves 14 grandchildren with one devoted grandson,Danyell;5 great- grandchildren. From the union of Robert B. and India Harris,Alfred leaves 2 brothers and 2 sisters to celebrate his life and homegoing;Mildred House,Boydton,VA.,Enfant Lee(Bessie),South Hill,VA.;Marcellus(Misako),Newport News,VA; and "the baby"Elzena Harris Lynch(Wayne),Chesterfield,VA.;He also leaves an abundance of nieces,nephews, and cousins to celebrate him and his life. Alfred will be greatly missed by ALL who knew him-but we know that he is home with the Lord-he ran a great race and won!
