Ada E. Wray

Ada E. Wray, daughter of the late Abraham and Mary Ellen DeGrafenreid, was born on June 13, 1914 in Chester, North Carolina. On June 6, 2003, she quietly slipped away from the trauma of this world to receive her reward and stand in the presence of Our Heavenly Father.Before moving to Baltimore, Ada received her diploma from Finley High School in Chester, South Carolina in 1932. She was employed by St. Joseph’s Medical Center as a Pharmacist Technician until her retirement on September 1, 1977. Ada accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church where she served several years as President of the Senior Missionary Board.She was married to the late Leonard Ralph Wray, whom she married on July 21, 1956. Ada spent the majority of her life caring for and encouraging others, while being a strong example of a woman of great faith. She loved serving the Lord in any capacity and devoted her life to watching over her nieces and nephews as the matriarch of the family. Ada never hesitated to offer words of encouragement and wisdom, while steadfastly holding on to God’s promises. Ada was a strong, independent, yet loving lady who we affectionately called “The Dutches”. Her hobbies included fellowship with family and friends, attending plays and shopping. She often stated that Baltimore City built the subway and light rail system just so that she could go shopping anytime she wanted. She often shared make-up tips with her nieces and would provide tips on proper etiquette. Not only was Ada the matriarch of the family, she was the source of strength for the entire family and would always share God’s Word to comfort others. She was our angel.Ada was predeceased by her late husband, Leonard Ralph Wray; a son, Samuel McCullough, Jr.; a daughter, Ada McCullough; three brothers, Sidney J. DeGrafenreid, Harry Reid and David DeGrafenreid; a nephew, Sidney J. DeGrafenreid, Jr,; two nieces that she adored, Mary E. Bowman and Ruth Wyatt. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Mary D. McCullough from Harrisburg, PA; one daughter-in-law, Audrey McCullough from Philadelphia, PA; one niece, Carolyn DeGrafenreid; five great-nieces, Lavern Winston, Delphine Wyatt, Joyce Moore, Adrianne Ferguson and Cynthia Bowman-Rooths; three devoted great-nephews, Reginald DeGRafenreid, Keith Moore and Mark Rooths; serveral great-great-nieces an nephews, a multitude of family and friends.
